Thank you for your interest in speaking at the Pre-Health Conference at UC Davis. We deeply value the diverse perspectives shared by speakers and look forward to potential future collaborations. Last year, the conference featured over 70 workshops and welcomed more than 2,800 attendees—an achievement made only possible through the support and kindness of the speakers, exhibitors, volunteers, staff, coordinators, and many others.

The Speaker Interest form is currently open and accepting responses for workshop submissions. Emails will begin going out to confirmed speakers in May 2026, and all workshops will be finalized by September 2026.

How can I become a speaker?
There are a few ways in which speakers will be chosen.

Exhibitors: These speakers are associated with higher-tier exhibitor packages: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Diamond, and Platinum. Please refer to the exhibitor page for more information.

Volunteer Speakers:
Speaker Interest Form: Any individual is welcome to fill out the Speaker Interest Form if they have a healthcare-related topic or idea that they would like to present on. Please note that while all proposals will be reviewed, filling out the form does not guarantee that your workshop will be selected.
By Invitation: A select number of speakers may be invited directly by the conference programming team.
How does the process work and what topics can I present?
Speakers may host between 1-3 workshops during the Pre-Health Conference. These sessions play a vital role in helping attendees explore various health professions, prepare for application cycles, and develop medical-related skills. Workshops are designed to support students at any stage of their pre-health journey. There are two types of workshops offered:

Didactic Workshops: Lecture-style workshops and panels
Examples: Career panels, admissions panels, and career exploration workshops

Interactive Workshops: Hands-on skills development
Examples: CPR, suturing, mock MMI, and personal statement review

FAQ: Speakers

When will the conference start recruiting speakers?
The programming team begins recruiting speakers every Spring. Workshop placement is typically offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Any recruitment that occurs after August 1st is at the discretion of the conference’s programming team. Requests from speakers that have purchased a package will be prioritized over volunteer speakers.
Are speakers assigned workshops or can they decide their own workshop?
We use a Speaker Interest Form to determine the workshop interests of the speakers. However, we cannot guarantee that a speaker will be assigned their preferred workshop. In some cases, we will provide a list of topics that a speaker can choose from to help guide the planning of their workshop.
Is there a limit to how many workshops a speaker can host?
This depends on a speaker’s package and whether they have been invited to volunteer. Volunteer speakers can host multiple workshops depending on availability and program needs. If a speaker is an exhibitor representing a school, they can host up to three workshops.
How many people attend workshops?
This largely depends on the lecture hall size and the popularity of the workshop. More popular workshops will be given in larger lecture halls and are often reserved for speakers from exhibitors who purchased higher-tiered packages. For most workshops, audience sizes can range from 25 to 500 people. Panels tend to have the highest attendance.
Where will workshops be held?
The finalized room assignments, workshop schedule, and campus map will be available in the program during late September and early October. Workshops will be held in various rooms across the UC Davis campus. The programming team will consider transportation concerns when assigning workshops to lecture halls. The goal is to ensure that all speakers can arrive at their workshops on time.
Do I have to bring my own materials for my interactive workshop?
The conference will be able to provide limited materials, such as tables, chairs, and projectors for the screen. All medical equipment will need to be brought by the speaker, though we will have golf carts to help with transportation if needed. This largely depends on the type of workshop. The interactive programming coordinator will reach out to interactive workshop speakers and coordinate the materials with each workshop. The conference will be able to provide limited materials.
What are the benefits of hosting a workshop for my school?
Workshops provide valuable benefits for both attendees and speakers. Hosting a workshop enables you to speak in front of a large audience on a topic that you’re passionate about—including your school’s programs and mission. Most of the workshops allow time for Q&A, enabling you to interact directly with prospective applicants. Additionally, hosting a workshop allows you to diversify your applicant pool and attract students from across the country.
Will audio equipment and projectors be provided for workshops?
Nearly all of the workshop locations will be equipped with lecture capture technology, including projectors, microphones, batteries, and adapters. If a location lacks equipment, the programming team will consider this while assigning workshops to rooms.

What is a moderator?
A moderator is a UC Davis undergraduate student who is the primary point of contact for the speakers of their assigned workshops. Once a moderator is assigned to your workshop, you will be introduced via email. They are responsible for communicating with speakers through email leading up to the conference and addressing the unique needs of their speakers.

During the day of the conference, they are responsible for handling the lecture hall technology, including microphones, cords, and projectors. Furthermore, they are responsible for introducing workshops with the workshop title, speaker name(s), and what attendees can expect. If it is a panel, they will ask predetermined questions to the panelists, in addition to taking questions from the audience.

Who can I contact in the event of an emergency during the conference?
In the event of an emergency, please contact your assigned moderator(s) (Once a moderator is assigned to your workshop, you will be introduced via email. See above for more details.) Their contact information, including their phone number, will be available to you. If your moderator is unable to provide assistance, they will contact one of the conference coordinators to address the issue.
